Vendée Globe 2012-13 skipper Mike Golding, in his ongoing duel over fifth place, has lost some small miles overnight to his rival Jean Le Cam who is managing to sail slightly quicker in the light to moderate reaching conditions which continue to challenge the duo who are just 48 miles apart on the water. Jean Le Cam is to the west and slightly ahead of Golding and the delta between the two on the 0400hrs UTC ranking is just 13 miles. The pair have very similar conditions continuing to be frustrated that the trade winds, which would be expected here, continue to be absent. Golding has 540 miles to make to the equator and will be contemplating how best to take on the passage of the Doldrums which he will reach in a couple of days time. Meantime he will be hoping that breezes do build slightly more for him. He is between 13 and 14 miles behind Le Cam this morning.
