Superyacht Australia met with key tourism and economic development officials last week in a meeting arranged by the local superyacht cluster; Superyacht Brisbane & Gold Coast.

The focus of the meeting was to provide an overview to these key stakeholders as to the opportunities within the Superyacht sector in Australia and more specifically the Gold Coast region. Superyacht Australia and the cluster are looking to drive a superyacht visitation programme for the Commonwealth Games to be held on the Gold Coast in 2018. It is critical that planning for such visitation starts now, given the years in advance superyacht owners and captains plan their cruising itineraries.

Superyacht Australia and the local cluster are driving significant activity in terms of global marketing to create greater awareness of the opportunities to cruise this region, recently promoting Australia in Monaco and next week in Fort Lauderdale.

In a show of strength the superyacht sector was out in force aboard MY Seven Star, a 98 foot luxury cruiser based on the Gold Coast who hosted a taste of the indulgence that the superyacht industry can offer to local and international visitors.

Superyacht Australia are undertaking considerable lobbying with the federal government to relax government regulations on chartering in order to maximise the opportunities for the region around this major event and increase visitation to Australia nation wide.

The global Superyacht sector is worth 24 billion euro with a fleet of over 6000 yachts across the world, Australia has just 1% of this market share demonstrating the huge potential for growth and opportunity in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
