Welcome to this edition of Sail-World.com's UK newsletter. Groupama has been declared the overall victors in the 2011/2012 Volvo Ocean Race (VOR) after a second-place finish in the short, 550-mile sprint from Lorient, France to Galway, Ireland cemented their overall win. Skipper Franck Cammas and his star-studded crew have tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of miles between them, most of these were completed on multi-hulls or during singlehanded campaigns or Jules Verne attempts. Cammas is the first French skipper to claim this lofty prize since skipper Lionel Péan and company claimed the prize in the 1985/1986 edition. Read on to catch the latest news from the World Match Racing Tour’s Stena Match Cup. Reigning Match Race World Champion Ian Williams (Team GAC Pindar) looks certain to make the quarter finals in Sweden. The Dragon Northern Area Championship came down to a tie-breaker after seven races over three days. Ben Saxton and Richard Mason finished second at the 470 European Championship, while the 'two Sophies', Sophie Weguelin and Sophie Ainsworth went one better to take the Gold. Julia Bailey leads the 2012 Dragon Edinburgh Cup after the first day of racing.
