SB3 World title to Carveth, 24 speed record then a near disaster ...

Welcome to this week's edition of our Sail-World.com UK newsletter.

SailRocket 2 has hit 40 knots and certainly looks the goods. Could this British built boat be the one that brings the kitesurfers back to the pack?

e Geoff Carveth, Andy Ramus, Ian Mills and Emma Clarke won the 2011 Zhik SB3 World Championships, beating out a fleet of 102 other teams. The final day brought to head a battle with Robert Greenhalgh for top honours, ultimately it was Carveth’s team who prevailed. Congratulations to the new world champions.

Chris Stanmore-Major set a Velux 5 Oceans 24 speed record in the final ocean. However CSM ran into trouble, fearing his yacht Spartan was sinking when the cabin flooded.

'My immediate thought was that something had breached the hull,' CSM told the Velux 5 Oceans team. 'I have literally never seen that much water inside a boat before. I informed race control that I thought I was dealing with a hull breach. I started to pump out the water then carried out a full check of the boat and found there was only one place the water was coming into the cabin, and that was by the rear bulkhead.'

Derek Hatfield (Active House) and Zbigniew ‘Gutek’ Gutkowski (Operon Racing) stood by, however CSM managed to pump the water out and all are continuing the final sprint to La Rochelle.

An exciting week as the Normandy Channel Race got underway with two early retirements announced, the Delta Lloyd Regatta commenced in Holland and of course we have dinghy sailing news from around the UK.

On the international scene, Lorenzo Bressani and crew on ITA 817 Uka Uka Racing successfully defended their Melges 24 World title in Corpus Christi (USA).

And we have lots of news and great images from the Audi MedCup Cascais Trophy, where the Soto 40s made their circuit debut. Thanks to all the photographers for their contributions - certainly some fantastic shots from the event.

We have loads more sailing news, pictures and videos from around the world so stay tuned to Sail-World.com to keep up to date.

Enjoy your week.
