After last weekend’s grand 'Thank You, China' party thrown by Green Team at McConaghy Boats’ yard in Zhuhai, China, a couple of days later it was time to get the shrink-wrapped VO70 out of the shed, onto a low-loader and down to the docks.

'It’s not heavy – it’s just big' pointed out Mark Evans, MD of McConaghy China (we’re sure Green Team will be glad to hear that!). And as the boat began to appear out of the door, it just seemed to get bigger and bigger.

The 25-ton crane that started the lift proved to have not enough ‘reach’, so a bigger crane was called for (95-ton). And then all of a sudden the whole 70’ of boat was out in the open for the first time, and we could get a good look at her ‘overall’ for the first time.

With the boat safely on the lorry, the driver decided he didn’t want to be in charge of such a big load in case he attracted unwelcome attention from the police (but was persuaded otherwise).

Getting past the low-level telephone wires at the yard entrance was mildly interesting, but the remainder of the journey to Doumen port - dodging minibuses and motorcycles - was entirely uneventful.

The Green Machine was then moved across the Pearl River delta and transhipped for Southampton/Gosport at the Kwai Chung container terminal in Hong Kong.
