Mumm 30 North American Championships Final Day |
 |
The 2005 Mumm 30 World Champion Richard Perini from Sydney Australia led into the final day of the 2006 North American Championship being hosted by Macatawa Bay Yacht Club in Holland Michigan. Perini reports on the days sailing. ‘Plenty of breeze for the last two races of the regatta, starting at around 15 knots and building to 20 for the second race. ‘Foreign Affair had a pretty average start, trailing our main rival, Philippe Kahn’s Pegasus, by several places at the first mark. We clawed back steadily during the remainder of the race but finished fifth behind Pegasus in second. This see-sawed the lead back to Pegasus by a point. ’In the final race, Pegasus did a little match race number on us just after the start forcing us to tack out to the right. That turned out to be glamour for us, with a 10 degree right shift giving us a handy lead at the first mark with Pegasus back in fifth. ‘Foreign Affair led all the way to the finish, in spite of the tack ring pulling out of the jib half way up the second beat. ‘However, Pegasus did everything they needed to picking off boats to surf across the line in second, giving them the regatta on a countback. Jim Richardson’s Barking Mad finished third overall.’ A full result set for this event will be posted as soon as it becomes available, The Mumm 30 World Championship will be sailed from November 29-Dec 2 in Miami Beach, FL USA
