The Fast 42 Moquini and her six crew are still missing from the Mauritius to Durban race; the last news from the vessel was a single EPIRB ID signal, without a position nine days ago. The South African Navy was conducting air searches initially, but have ceased, so it is only privately funded searching that is continuing, In the latest report from the Royal Natal Yacht Club, there were three aircraft in the air yesterday: 'A King Air flew out of Madagascar and searched the south western shoreline of the island. 'A second King Air, flying out of Virginia in the Grindrod aircraft reported no sign. They flew the rhumbline. 'The Learjet flew the rhumbline to a point 450 nautical miles out and conducted a grid search. 'Today's search takes us to Mozambique. We have enough evidence on hand to suggest that if Moquini had experienced an 'event' some 53 hours after her last known position and maintained a slightly more westerly course (which had been discussed), then she could be in an area as close as 50nm south-east of Bazaruto in the Mozambique channel. 'ORI in Durban and Ct have given us very detailed current information suggesting that they would end up on the beaches of Vilancoulos. We know that flotsam from the Helderberg ended up on the same beach and a resident confirmed that every big storm off Southern Madagascar throws bits and pieces onto his beach at Vilancoulos. 'The plane sets off today and returns Sunday evening.' For ongoing information http://www.mauritiustodurban.com/moquini.html
