The Northern action is already heating up with a steady stream of humpback whales heading north for the Boat Watching Season, with record numbers of spectator whales expected for the Sydney to Southport Race, then the Queensland Season of Sailing continues with the Brisbane Keppel, Airlie Beach Race Week, Audi Hamilton Island Race Week and Magnetic Island Race Weeks.
Queensland’s highest profile grand prix yacht racing team has upped the ante with th highly regarded Volvo 70 Telefonica being modified for IRC racing in Australia. Motor racing legend Sir Jack Brabham, a close friend of Black Jack’s owner Peter Harburg, christened the boat with champagne last Saturday and she is now heading south for the start of the Sydney Gold Coast Race.

Overseas, it’s been a glorious week of European Summer weather and at the 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships, racing is underway with three Australian crews ending day one in top four positions, in Limassol, Cyprus.
More than 350 sailors from 61 nations began racing across eight classes on Monday. At the end of the opening day the Australian Sailing Youth Team’s 420 girl’s crew of Carrie Smith and Ella Clark lead, with SL16 pair Paul Darmanin and Lucy Copeland third and Harry Price and Angus Williams fourth in the 29er.
Simon Reffold updates us on the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup. It’s just a few weeks to go until the Objective Australia team will be touching down in San Francisco – ready to start their month of hard training ahead of September’s Red Bull Youth America’s Cup.
Unlike some of their competitors who are aligned with existing America’s Cup teams, Objective Australia does not have access to the AC45s in which the Youth America’s Cup will be raced. Instead they have been focussing on their individual sailing pursuits, all with great success. You can catch the full news below.
