Emirates Team New Zealand have lined up for their second official race of the Louis Vuitton Cup. Writing on his blog on Kiwi Yachting Consultants?nid=111790, of which he is a substantial shareholder and director, skipper Dean Barker gives his views of the second day of racing in the Louis Vuitton Cup.
Race 2 of the Louis Vuitton Cup
Today we had our second race of the LVC. This was scheduled against Artemis who by all accounts are far from being ready to sail. So it was always going to be a day for us to go out and spend some more time on the race course and work on some different manoeuvres. After our first race day we had a few things we wanted to improve and after today I feel we managed to improve our performance.
There is a real balance between racing hard and just sailing around to get the point. If we weren't scheduled to be racing then we would be sailing anyway working on different aspects of speed or crew work. We want to keep putting ourselves under pressure to perform so we are ready when it counts. It is always hard when you know the opposition will not be there but the guys are incredibly professional about preparing as if it is a do or die race.
Our next scheduled race day is against LR on Saturday and we are hopeful they will be there. It will be great to have a boat to race and to learn more about the venue.
