The 2013 Fremantle to Bali Race and Rally 2013, is currently underway. Last night Tony Mitchell's canting keel super maxi Super Sled (known better to most of us as Ludde Ingvall´s Nicorette)was heading north up the WA coast at an average of more than 13 knots. Her nearest rival Walk on the Wild Side was last time we checked 70 nautical miles farther back, and the surprise packet of the race, the 36 footer General Lee, (the IRC handicap leader) was just three miles behind.
However this morning the fleet is spreading out and This morning Tony Mitchell's Super Sled is now 480 miles into the 1440 nautical mile race and is now leading on line honours, IRC and PHS scoring systems.

ISAF and ILCA on thin ice? Intellectual Property Rights and Copyright - today we feature an article by British IPR lawyer John Harwood-Bee on the lawsuit between designer Bruce Kirby, builder LPE and associated companies and ISAF and ILCA.
While the whole subject might appear quite arcane, it’s having a serious impact in the Asia Pacific, with long time Laser builder Performance Sailcraft Australia scratching its head as to how it might be able to build Lasers, after ISAF-ILCA recent rules changes and stay out of the US court system.
After 40 years of doing the right thing by everyone, PSA is now stuck been a rock and a hard place and it has asked ISAF and ILCA and been told very unhelpfully `Do what you have to do’... We trust Australia´s and in fact all the Pacific representatives will be asking some hard questions at the upcoming ISAF mid-year meeting in Copenhagen this weekend.
America's Cup: Russell Coutts and Grant Dalton, the heads of two America's Cup teams squared off in Auckland last Friday night. Sail-World´s Richard Gladwell has provided a two part feature on the Q & A session.

Her success continued with line honours and IRC wins in the Melbourne to King Island race in 2011 and 2013. In fact she has only been unplaced in one ocean race and that was the 2011 Sydney to Hobart race where she was placed eighth on IRC.
Entries now open for Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race 2013 - the 384 nautical mile Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race to start on Sydney Harbour at 1pm, Saturday 27 July.

In 16 years of the Etchells Australasian Winter Championship there have been 16 winners - a prestigious list - Dave Rose (1997), Russell Coutts (1998), Ian Johnston (1999), Julian Plante (2000), Michael Coxon (2001), Mark Bradford (2002), Cameron Appleton (2003), Grant Wharington (2004), Rob Brown (2005), Cameron Miles (2006), Skip Lissiman (2007), Graeme Taylor (2008), Damien King (2009), Alastair Gair (2010),Tom King (2011) and Matthew Chew (2012).
Will the list continue to expand in 2013, with a 17th winner, rather than a previous champion taking a second title?
