The International Sailing Federation has announced that Ralph Roberts (NZL) has been awarded a Gold Medal by the World governing body in recognition of many year's service to the ISAF and sport of sailing. A second New Zealander, Jack Lloyd, a member of two Olympic Juries and now Volvo Ocean Race Director, has been awarded a Silver medal. The announcements come in an official release from the Executive Meeting of the world body held in early February. Several others who have given long service to the ISAF were also recognised being Jack Caldwell (USA), Charley Cook (USA), Teresa Lara (ESP) , Alberto Predieri (ITA), and Eric Tulla (PUR). The last three were former ISAF Vice-Presidents who were not re-elected at the November 2012 meeting. Caldwell was ISAF Review Board Chairman, which has oversight over matters of sailing discipline. Roberts had been a member of the ISAF Council, the Youth World Sailing Committee, the World Youth sailing Trust, and is currently an International Judge, a former Int. Umpire and has been a member of two Olympic Juries, and was Chair of the 2012 Paralympic Jury. A two time Olympic competitor (1960 and 1968), and reserve for the 1964 Olympics, Roberts was Yachting Manager in 1984 and Chef de Mission for the NZ Olympic team in 1992. Roberts also provided a strong voice for Paralympic and Pacific Islands sailing at ISAF level. A former President of Yachting NZ, and Life Member, Roberts was not re-nominated by Yachting NZ for any of the ISAF positions that he held prior to the 2012 ISAF AGM, and he was effectively retired from further service, by the NZ national body. Lloyd is an International Judge and International Umpire. He has served on the ISAF's International Judges Sub-committee and the Racing Rules Committee, in addition to his functons with the Volvo Ocean Race and Olympic Juries. Four other New Zealanders have been awarded a Gold Medal by the ISAF - Don St Clair Brown, Hal Wagstaff, Joe Butterfield and Adrienne Greenwood. She was elected to the ISAF Executive Committee at the November 2012 meeting for a four year term. The full report of the ISAF Executive Committee can be read here
