 | Leslie Green's newish MC38 Ginger had a wow of a time out there. her kind of conditions. - Audi IRC Australian Championships John Curnow © | The largest event of the last week was the 2013 Festival of Sails in Geelong and while up north the weather Gods were tossing it down, there was excellent sailing conditions for the 300+ boats sailing into and on Corio Bay. As you’d expect Sail-World’s coverage was very detailed with John Curnow providing another perspective on the 2013 Audi IRC Nationals and more. Thanks too for great work from Lisa Ratcliff, Teri Dodds and Andrea Francolini and Alex McKinnon. Mark Rothfield reports on the Australian F18 2013 titles sailed out of Mannering Park Amateur Sailing Club, Lake Macquarie. Jason Waterhouse and his crewman Brett Goodall with their second consecutive national title, following an emphatic performance in the five races staged over the weekend. Carrying a third placing as their drop they finished on just six points, comfortably ahead of the WA combination of Brett Burvill and Ryan Duffield (14 pts) and Adam Beattie/Jamie Leitner (15 pts).
 | Francois Gabart (Macif) - Vendee Globe Race 2012-2013 - © Alexis Courcoux / Macif | On the world stage, the finish of the Vendee Globe 2012-2013 has dominated the news, Francois Gabart (Macif) Gabart got the gun onboard Macif setting a new solo round-the-world record of 78 day, two hours, 16 minutes and 40 seconds. Beating Michel Desjoyeaux’s record by six days 00 hours 53 minutes. Post race Galbart commented ‘My initial goal was to do my best, but Macif and I didn’t think about winning, we weren’t that ambitious. We wanted to have a great race that was it. But when I passed Armel in the Indian Ocean, I knew Jean-Pierre was behind and Vincent was out of the race and I started thinking maybe I could do it.

We have reports on last Sundays’ race five. After that, allowing for discards, Thurlow Fisher Lawyers leads the championship with a total of five points, followed by Gotta Love It 7 on six and Smeg on seven.
