Lots of Crash and Burn with a huge year ahead + Video

'2013 Moth Australian Championships'    Gavin Hodge

Right now in Oz... there is action aplenty.

Yesterday’s 2013 Australian Moth Championship fleet featured some serious crash and burns as the video shows.

Kiwi Pete Burling is on fire, Scott Babbage is getting ready to catch the bride’s bouquet for yet another time. 2012 World Champion Josh McKnight is third, Dave Lister is fourth, Tom Slingsby is fifth and local hero, 2011 Moth WC, Nathan Outteridge is out the back door, with a string of equipment failures.

The video is a hoot and we have interviews and full results below.

Spectacular sailing, flying even at the Intern dominion 12 foot s skiffs being sailed out of Manly in Brisbane. 25 knots plus yesterday and out came the smallest rigs. It was that or death reported Richard Billet.

Australian Etchells Championships - Black Flag and Adrenaline pumping five black flags, a boat rising from the seabed and collisions. The Gentlemen from the Etchells fleet were not all so gentlemanly yesterday. And for one well know skipper its Thanks for coming and thank your mother for the rabbits – or words to that effect.

Sail-World’s coverage of the 34th Cup is going to be bigger than ever before. Richard Gladwell is heading up our newsletter coverage and in US sporting terms our All Star is Bob Fisher, the doyen of America’s Cup and Olympic Sailing. We will be having a quiet little drink or four over the weekend with The Fish as we map out the program. We will be talking to the key players from the four teams in the weeks ahead.

It’s a giant year ahead locally with big numbers expected for the Festival of Sail in Geelong, including the Audi IRC Australian titles, the Sydney Harbour regatta, and then Sail Port Stephens amongst the early highlights ahead of Sanctuary Cove and the Etchells Midwinters.

Sail-World’s regatta presence on the world stage and local scene will be stronger than ever before.

For the first time we will be on the water for some of the key European World Sailing Cup events. We will be at the Louis Vuitton series, ahead of the Sydney International Boat Show, Southport, Keppel, Airlie, Hamilton, Magnetic Island and then back to San Francisco for the Cup itself, with the full Sail-World team. Remember, we are doing this for you.

And on a personal note, thanks for all the kind words and messages after we showed you pictures of the burnt paddocks at Sail-World Australia’s HQ.

Pump sheds, pumps, waterlines and some fences are gone, a miracle that was all, but the really good news is that right now there is about 500 acres of blackened paddock providing a serious firebreak shielding us from any further bush fires.

Lots of good sailing news, have a great weekend
