The seventh annual Heaven Can Wait regatta starts at 11am tomorrow morning and the forecast is looking good. North westerly, through to south westerly winds of 12-20 knots from the start time until the end of the 12 hour race then easing back for the balance of the 24 hour race. The regatta itself includes three races: the Classic 24 Hour Race, the One Lap Dash around the full 30 Nm course, and a new 12 Hour Challenge, with participants able to compete in any or all of the three events. The race begins at 1100 hours on Saturday, with a fleet of yachts -- racing, one-design and cruising -- mixing it with foiling moths, 18 foot skiffs and kite surfers. Currently there are sixty two entries and it seems that the incredibly eclectic mix of some seventy boats will face the starter, Principal Race Officer Blake Middleton from Lake Minnetonka Minnesota USA, who has travelled to Toronto for the seventh year in a row. The regatta was established by Lake Macquarie sailor and cancer survivor Shaun Lewicki to race funds for men's cancer research and support programs through the Cancer Council of NSW.
