The 2012 SAP 505 World Championship Pre-Worlds got off to an amazing start. The event kicked off yesterday amid bright sunshine and clear blue skies in La Rochelle. With a good breeze in the air, the sailors took to their boats in what was surely record time, eager to get out on the water and make the most of the incredible conditions.

After a hotly contested first round, it was Lewis and Persons from Great Britain who came out on top, swiftly followed by the local French team of Boite and Gallo in second, with the American crew of Diaz and Lawrence finishing in third place. Round 2 saw a strong showing from the American contingent with Diaz and Lawrence climbing two places to finish in first place, fellow countrymen Hamlin and Zinn in second, and the Brits Lewis and Persons rounding out the podium in third place.

The SAP Sailor Lounge was extremely popular on day one with many sailors coming in to enjoy a drink and analyze their race information with the help of SAP experts.

Overall standings at the end of day one of the Pre-Worlds were as follows:

1st Place: Diaz and Lawrence (USA)
2nd Place: Lewis and Persons (GBR)
3rd Place: Saugmann and Gorge (DEN)
4th Place: Boite and Gallo (FRA)
5th Place: Hamlin and Zinn (USA)
