The numbers are not yet in, but already organisers of the Melbourne Boat Show are hailing this year's event a success, both in terms of visitor numbers and happy exhibitors. 'Numbers will be roughly the same as last year,' reports Clyde Batty, General Manager Boating Industry Association Victoria (BIAV) anticipating around 35,000 visitors over the five day event. 'But what really matters to us is the smiles of the faces of exhibitors. There hasn't been one complaint. 'The weather has been perfect, there are plenty of people flowing through the gates, although Monday wasn't as strong as last year, because last year it fell on a public holiday. But we are happy with first reports from exhibitors who said they have all had a great show.' Batty continues: 'From the smallest rod and reel to the largest trailerable boat, people have been selling. The Seabreacher was on show and they sold three vessels - and they are purely personal toys, each about $146,000. That's a good indication that people were prepared to spend.' The Melbourne Boat Show, this year 5-9 July, attracted 130 exhibitors housed undercover at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, occupying 30,000msq of space - the entire centre. 'It's all about quality buyers,' confirms Batty. 'Sales and good leads for the rest of the year are what counts to the exhibitors.' There will be a more detailed report from BIAV later in the week.
