On Tuesday July 4, Gildas Morvan crossed the finish line in Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, taking the second stage of La Solitaire du Figaro-Eric Bompard Cachemire.

The skipper of Cercle Vert won the second leg of the Figaro race after 2 days, 11 hours, 28 minutes and 28 seconds of racing.

Morvan completed almost 451 miles from start to finish after a huge duel with Nicolas Lunven, which started in the Bay of Biscay and lasted until the end of the leg.

The skipper of Generali finished second, 3 minutes 17 seconds behind Cercle Vert. Yann Elies (Groupe Queguiner / Journal des entreprises) completed the podium and retained his leading position in the overall standings after two stages.

Gildas Morvan (Cercle Vert): 'Starting from Gijon my goal was to put everything back in place after my bad first stage. You really had to be in the front and not back with no pressure.

'I was in good shape on the last day but I really wanted to let up. I had to check algae, for plastic, the settings - you had to be on it not to loose anything and not to be caught.

'In the end I held Nico Lunven - for me it's fabulous. The goal is to win the third stage.'

Nicolas Lunven (Generali) second in stage 2: 'I'm really happy, but with the hint of disappointment. I tried to analyze this little slump (in the Bay of Biscay) and I have trouble explaining where Gildas passed me. I lose a step on one small mistake, but I am very very happy to be second and it was a lot of fun. I cannot wait to sleep in a good bed, I'm pretty tired, only between Groix and Belle Isle I managed to rest a little.'

Yann Elies (Groupe Queguiner/Business Journal) third: 'I'm happy with third and I returned a shorter time than my comrades of the first stage.'
