Summer Series at Chichester YC - Races 7 and 8

'Chichester Yacht Club'    .

The final two races for the Summer Series at Chichester Yacht Club took place amid mild temperatures and sunny conditions. The prospect of a 15 knot breeze encouraged over twenty boats to turnout. In the Fast fleet, Jason Kirk who last weekend was runner-up at the RS400 Locks SC open, was re-acquainted with a Laser as his RS400 in currently under repair.

The Race Office of the day, Ben Godwin set a course allowing the asymmetric dinghies to enjoy two long kite reaches, a good windward leg and finish to the club line. In race 1, with a reaching start, the two Lasers of Ian Payne and Jason Kirk lead the fleet around the course, with the Solo of Mark Harper leading the six other Solos.

With some typical Chichester Harbour gusts down the reaching legs of the course, all competitors had an enjoyable first race. On corrected time with just under one hours racing, Jason was first, second was Ian Payne, and third the Solo of Mark. The rest of the fleet all had exceptionally close racing with Roger Millet (Solo) fourth and Chris Hodges and wife Louise in their Laser 2000 fifth, Ian Lissamore (Solo) followed by Derek Jackman, who had just been a bit too keen at the start and had to unfortunately restart.

In the Slow fleet, the Toppers, Optimist and Feva classes enjoyed a slightly smaller course in the blustery conditions with Hannah Thompson in her Topper 40617 first on corrected time with Rosie Berry and Blythe Berry (Feva class) second, followed by another Topper of Sophie Kirk. A one minute gap separated the first three boats on corrected time showing the closeness of the racing in this fleet over the 50 minute race.

Races 2 took place after a short break, and with a slight increase in the breeze and with an ebbing tide. In the fast fleet, Jason Kirk took the race on the water, and on corrected time, second on corrected time enjoying the conditions was Mark Harper, with Ian Payne third.

Over the eight races in the series, the overall Summer Series winners were:

Fast Fleet:

1st - Mark Harper -Solo 5050 6.5 points
2nd - Ian Payne - Laser 166550 9 points
3rd - Ian Lissamore - Solo 4319 24.5 points
4th - Derek Jackman - Solo 5237 27.5 points

Slow Fleet:

1st - Charlotte Reading - Topper 41 9.0 points
2nd - Hannah Thompson - Topper 40617 10 points

Congratulations to Ian Barnett of CYC sailing his Solo at the Open meeting at Hayling Island SC on Sunday for taking fourth overall.
