Melges 24 U.S. National Championship 20th edition, sponsored by CSR Marine, is being hosted by the Seattle Yacht Club (SYC) in Seattle, Washington from 15th to 17th June 2012. Warm and super light conditions greeted the 36-strong Melges 24 fleet on opening day. With the stunning and snow-capped Mt. Rainer in the background, it wasn’t until around 2 o’clock in the afternoon that PRO Brian Watkins put the fleet into sequence and managed a first start. About 15 minutes into the race, he quickly realized that what originally appeared to be a promising northerly, fizzled to less than 5 knots with teams going upwind against the flood, prompting him to abandon. Almost two hours later, the Race Committee hoisted the Lima Flag and headed back to the yacht club. The fleet followed, basking in the Seattle summertime warmth and sunshine, gathering near a beach just outside the marina. The forecast looks better for the weekend. Predictions currently indicate a possible 10-20 out of the south for Saturday. Full list of entries Full list of Corinthian entries Seattle Yacht Club website US Melges 24 Class Association website
