Team15 Inter-Club Championship kicked off at Clyde Windsurfing Club on Saturday 9th June 2012. The Loch Insh Monsters took the first Team15 windsurfing event by storm by securing their first win to start off the season. The youngsters competing represented four different clubs. With shifting winds and 12 knots on the day the kids really impressed with their ability to adapt to the conditions. Tristan Millidane, 12 years old, was one of the Loch Insh Monsters star performers as he dominated the 4.5 fleet to secure the win. He was pushed hard by Isaac Lines also 12 from Dunoon which made for some pretty competitive racing. The team are sponsored by Loch Insh Watersports and this first event is one of four that they will be competing in throughout Scotland. This year is a real family affair with three different sets of siblings competing for the Loch Insh Monsters, many of whom have been windsurfing for up to three years now. Beth 12 and Jamie 11 Mickel secured fourth and third places respectively in their fleets. Erin Watson snatched a win in the 5.8 fleet whilst her sister Islay finished third in the 4.5. Sam Brown who is only 10 also took a win in the 3.5 fleet whilst his older brother Andrew, aged 13, won the 6.8 fleet. Andrew is also a member of the RYA Scotland squad for windsurfing. Overall the event was great fun for all who took part and offered up some really competitive racing. After the success of the Loch Insh Monsters last season the other clubs are determined to push them harder than ever. Jordan Wilkie, aged 13, races for the Largs Wave Warriors has only been windsurfing for four weeks and managed to take third place in the 3.5 fleet at his first ever Team 15 event. When asked what he thought about his first event, Jordon said 'That was awesome, what a great day'. The next event will be taking place on home waters at Loch Insh on Saturday 23rd June where the young windsurfers will meet again to compete and also to challenge for a place at the Team 15 Champions Cup held in October. Supported by industry leaders Tushingham/Starboard and Neil Pryde, T15 was set up by the RYA to help make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to youngsters at a grass roots level. Fun and informal training sessions take place at T15 clubs all over the country for kids up to the age of 15, which are run weekly by specialist RYA coaches. The T15 inter-club championship takes place regionally over the summer adding a competitive edge and race training for those keen to hone their skills. Kit can be borrowed from the clubs and the cost of sessions is kept low. To get involved with Team15 and locate your nearest local club visit the Team 15 website. RYA website
