Sail-World.com : RS Feva Nationals day 1
RS Feva Nationals day 1

'RS Feva Nationals 2012'    RS Feva

The opening day of racing at the RS Feva Nationals proved quite challenging for the fleet of 105 boats. But with average wind speeds of 17 – 23 knots and the odd, huge gust nearing 30 knots, it certainly was tough and tiring. The Royal Torbay Yacht Club worked hard to get all three races in.

The race officer gave the fleet one chance before the black flag came into force but still two boats were caught from the first flight and four boats from the second fleet. Although the wind was gusty it was steady so marks stayed put.

Robert Masterman and Marcus Payne from Hayling Island SC flew and recorded three bullets giving them the overall lead after day one. Whilst in second place is current World Champion Mattfield with former National Champion crew James Taylor.

Back in the Feva after a winter of crewing a 29er is former GP Series winner and local sailor Morgan Peach crewed by Sophie Caseldine in third. In fourth is all girl team Anna Prescott and Jess Eales.

The fleet is now split into gold and silver for racing tomorrow and Tuesday.
