Winter Series at Bellerive Yacht Club
|
Winter Series 2012 at Bellerive Yacht Club got underway on the River Derwent yesterday, Saturday 2nd June. Long-time sailing secretary at Bellerive Yacht Club, Chris Sheehan, went sailing himself and scored a well-deserved win in the opening race of his club’s winter series. Sheehan got a break from race management to skipper his Young 88 Saga to a close win in division 2, beating line honours winner WA Cromarty Engineering (Steve Harrison) by 20 seconds on corrected time. Third place went to the syndicate-owned Twitch. 'We managed to pick the right wind shifts,' said Sheehan after a day of vert light weather sailing which saw the breeze increase from 3-4 knots at the start to no more that 6-7 knots towards the end of the race.

Successful woman skipper Sally Rattle had a near all-girl crew aboard her Archambault 36, Archie, as she and her team prepared for the Australian women’s keelboat championship at the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria next weekend. Sally and her crew will sail the successful Melbourne yacht Penfold Audi Sports in the championship. They are confident of a better result than yesterday where Archie finished fifth across the line in division 1 but only seventh on corrected time. In division 3 of the BYC winter series, first place went to Ragtime (Tom Kirkland) from line honours winner Grizzly Adams (Joel Bulman), third place going to Epoxy Warrior (Ross Mannering).
