The Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Kim Moon–Soo, opened the fifth edition of the Korea International Boat Show at the Jeonggok Marina on South Korea's west coast. The Governor was accompanied by the Korean Minister for Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, Mr Kwon Do-Youp, who commented that 'My ministry is supporting the development of marinas and infrastructure to support the domestic demand for leisure boat users. With regard to the development of a boat manufacturing industry, the Ministry of Knowledge and Industry is working to ensure that we have sufficient capability to produce high quality and technological advance leisure boats'.

The Government has already produced a master plan to grow the number of leisure boat marinas to 43 spread across the country, particularly on the west coast near the capital of Seoul and also on the semi-tropical south coast. This year’s edition of the show has attracted considerable interest from the global leisure marine industry with Tony Rice, Secretary General of the International Council of Marine Industry Association (ICOMIA) visiting the show for three days and Marine Industry Association heads from Australia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, USA, Singapore and UK attending the show and conference.

The five-day show is complemented by the ‘Asia Marine Industry Conference ' with some 100 delegates, and has attracted over 220 exhibitors. The show runs until Sunday and is organized by the Gyeonggi Province Government.
