It's a wrap in Hyeres for the Canadian Sailing Team!

The final day in Hyeres came down to the medal races and the Paralympic racing. CST Star team Richard Clarke and Tyler Bjorn had a heartbreaker today going into the final day tied for second and just missed the podium placing fourth overall. Clarke reflects on today's racing by saying 'Early in the run just as we were getting settled and thinking about the pole we went down a massive wave with no exit and buried the bow. We call this 'going down the mine' and it usually ends badly. Luckily we maintained control of the boat but completely filled the boat with water.' Clarke & Bjorn share some perspective on the outcome in Hyeres, 'Upset? yes, but after some reflection we are happy with our overall performance, acheived our set goals for this regatta and feel prepared for Worlds.' The Star World Championships take place at this same venue in one week's time. Another upset in the world of sailing was Aussie Tom Slingsby heading into the medal race in good position when his mast broke, knocking him off the podium. Today in the Paralympic classes, high winds grounded the Skud 18 and the 2.4mR. Paul Tingley ended his regatta in seventh while the Skud's McRoberts/Louttit placed fourth overall. The Sonars went out to the race course in a pretty strong breeze with 4-6 ft waves ready to race after about an hour of practice, the race was abandoned and everyone headed for shore. The Paralympic classes only had seven races in all but there was good racing and plenty of challenging conditions. Hyeres is always a great regatta but this one tested the best of the competitors and the race committee to the fullest. Full results can be found at the Hyeres regatta website: http://sof.ffvoile.fr/
