Currently underway, by Roads and Maritime Services, are maintenance works to Forster Tuncurry Bridge. Boaters should be aware of altered navigation under the bridge during the maintenance period. Maritime Hunter/ Inland Regional Manager Sonia McKay said during the maintenance work, which is expected to continue until 8 June, the Tuncurry channel span would be periodically closed to marine traffic. 'Additionally, navigable spans under the bridge may have less clearance from time to time than may be otherwise published or displayed,' Ms McKay said. 'Vessel operators should look out for ‘channel blocked’ lights and shapes - which will be attached to vessels carrying out construction works or suspended from the bridge – marker buoys, and other warning indicators.' 'Alternative channels will be open for traffic while the main channel span is blocked.' Ms McKay said vessel operators should be aware that the outer span widths are significantly narrower than the main channel. 'Large vessels should take extreme care when navigating near the bridge during this time,' she said. Ms McKay said vessel operators would need to comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer when in the vicinity of the works. Maritime NSW website
