Coast Guard and National Guard rescuers were scouring the choppy waters 27 miles west of the Golden Gate for the missing sailors early Sunday. Three other sailors were rescued from the rocks Saturday afternoon after their sailboat, the Low Speed Chase, crashed at around 3 p.m.

Forty-nine boats competed in this year's race, which began Saturday morning at the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco and is sanctioned by the Ocean Yacht Racing Association.
