Boat Style equals boating in style, inside and out

Drawing on three decades of decorating and a passion for cruising, Sarah Egan from Boat Style will overhaul the onboard styling of MV The Lady, venue for the two 'High Tea on the High Seas' river cruises during the 2012 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Each of the two-hour cruises, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May, will ferry 70 ladies around the Coomera River, with the superb backdrop of the Gold Coast’s waterways and this year’s panoply of craft on the marina, while they enjoy canapés, champagne and pampering sessions from Champions Hair Beauty & Day Spa.

Says Sarah of the revamp: 'I was inspired by The Lady’s white crispness – what better canvas for a celebration of coastal cool?'

Sarah says ladies can 'put on a sunny disposition and slip into a little Palm Springs Style', as she creates 'a safe haven for the seafaring, fairer sex with a whole lot of ‘Aqua Glamour’!'

'The look screams hip, glamour, sea side chic, inspired by the eclectic style of Palm Springs with its mix of cultures and retro modern architecture.'

With her eye for selecting interactive, practical and purposeful pieces, Sarah is going for a 'sophisticated yet relaxed' feel.

'So right for modern boating which I often refer to as Glamping- glamorous camping. When I think of Palm Spring design I always think of Trina Turk, the divine Palm Springs clothing and now home wares designer. So expect vivid colours in neo classic patterns on 21st century steroids!'

Working with the sublime backdrop of the Broadwater and sea beyond, Sarah and her team will draw from a palette of 'cool water blue hues of turquoise, aquamarine and accents of green apple, which will bounce off the super white on white lounges and daybeds'.

All the upholstery and scatter cushions she plans to use onboard The Lady will be Sunbrella High performance fabrics, most never before seen on our shores.

'Forget the traditional canvas and classic nautical stripes of yesteryear, now we can seamlessly move from indoors to out with no loss of style or function. Boat Style will show guests just how soft, vibrant and sumptuous outdoor fabrics have become.'

Since 1961, Sunbrella has set the standard for quality performance fabric in the awning, marine and furniture industries. The story of Sunbrella is one of possibilities imagined and realized.

She will also use select pieces from the POSIdesign furniture range, which blends sophisticated modern design with classical shapes produced from superior-quality polyethylene-based fibres characterized by high flexibility and tensile strength.

Made from a synthetic fibre which is coloured throughout, smudge-proof and UV and weather resistant, it is extremely durable, boasting UV and weather-resistance.

POSIdesign uses a number of fibres in the manufacturing process which unlike natural rattan and ordinary plastic cord have unique attributes and performance capabilities: UV and weather resistant, Non-toxic and environment-friendly (100% recyclable), Natural-looking texture and feel, Maintenance-free (cleans easily with mild soap and water) and Pest and fungus-free.

A regular exhibitor at the Sanctuary Cove boat show, Boat Style is the product of Sarah’s own love of the sea, boating lifestyle and passion for 'all things luxe'.

'I live and breathe Boat Style. This is my passion. My work encompasses my life-long love of boating and the sea intertwined with my insatiable love of all things luxe.

'Whether inshore racing, a Bay cruise or messing about in dinghies on the foreshore, boating has always been a part of what I’ve done. My father was adamant that to get on in life, one must really know how to ride a horse, play a decent round of golf and sail a boat.'

'Throughout my life and travels boating has introduced me to the most amazing people and places but above all, I feel truly at home on water.

In 2010, My husband and I bought a beautiful cruising yacht, Sirocco. I set about in earnest to make her a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives.

'With over 300,000 recreational boats in Queensland alone I expected to find all the things required to deck out our new home away from home. I was left wanting, disenchanted by the rather predictable and uninspiring marine furnishings and home wares available. How could that be? So many boats so many horrible rope and anchor pillows, ill-fitting scratchy polyester sheets and truly horrid drinkware and dinnerware. It dawned on me, ‘Why can’t our boat be an extension of the things we have come to expect in our homes?’ This was the birth of Boat Style.'

Living and working by the ethos: 'Function can match style there is no need to compromise', Sarah established a web shop which is an emporium for the very best quality products available to furnish a boat.

'Many of our customers have completely fitted out their boats online. One customer boasts he fitted out his entire 3 cabin, 47ft boat on our website in 76 minutes. Because of the internet we have happy clients around the world who know that our products are tried and tested.

'But despite offering over 300 products online, sometimes a boat calls for something custom made. That’s where our Bespoke service comes in. We have thousands of fabrics and products at our fingertips from around the globe, ready to create the perfect design from concept stage to the moment you set off. Whether power or sail, big or small, our clients’ satisfaction is our ultimate goal.'
