Miami Sailing Week Melges 20 - Kiss and Lalli come out on top

Sunday was the final day of racing for the Melges 20 fleet at Bacardi Miami Sailing Week (BMSW).

Michael Kiss on Bacio, with tactician Chris Rast and crew Willie McBride claimed the Championship title.

For Kiss and crew, this is the very first time they have won Bacardi. They won the one and only race conducted on Sunday, sealing the Championship deal by nine points.

'This is good. The racing this week was fantastic, as always,' said an ecstatically happy Kiss at the awards ceremony. 'I really have to thank Chris and Willie. They were both fantastic, but I also have to really thank my wife Tovi. She is the one that always takes care of us, makes us look so nice and fed so well. She makes it all possible and is the engine that drives the Bacio program. Tovi and Melges ROCKS!'

Kiss continued, 'We were really happy to do well in the heavy breeze earlier in the week and the light air today. Lighter is always trickier, and this fleet is loaded with really good sailors. If you get behind it is so hard to catch up. Our goal was to get off the line and try to keep up with Red Sky and the Eagans. We knew we need to keep them close.'

Paul Reilly's Red Sky finished second overall and the all-Corinthian, family based team Cajun Underwriting helmed by Marcus Eagan came third. The two were tied with 29 points each.
