The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM) of Korea announced a plan to develop superyacht marina industry. The government´s main aim is to establish Korea as a leading superyacht marina country in Northeast Asia by 2015. The Korean government has decided to expand the basis for marine leisure sports including yachts, and building upon which, to develop marina industry as future growth engine.

Major plans to develop the industry are as follows:

- To expand the foundation for marine leisure sports, the government plans to expand existing free experience programs for marine leisure and sports from 180,000 persons this year to 500,000 persons next year, and also decided to deregulate the yachting industry including yacht licensing and the restriction of boating pursuant to special weather reports.

- In addition, the government will prepare institutional support plans including the revision of its strategy for marina development to expand infrastructure along rivers and coastal areas throughout the country and invite private investment.

- The government stressed that marina industry will enhance the value of national territory, improve the standard of living and provide future growth engine, and it will continue to develop the industry in the future.
