The U.S. Melges 24 Class is proud to welcome some of the world’s greatest teams packed full with sailing superstars to warm and sunny Coconut Grove, Fla. for Bacardi Miami Sailing Week (BMSW).

Teams have traveled from as far away as Italy, and as near as Tampa, Fla. to compete at what has become a marquee event for the fleet.

Among those in attendance are defending Champion and International Class Chairman Riccardo Simoneschi aboard Audi. 2012 Charleston Race Week Champion Kristen Lane on Brickhouse 812 is back with the exact same team — Charlie McKee, Matt Pistay, Jonny ‘Rockstar’ Goldsberry and Willem Van Waay. Flavio Favini will helm Franco Rossini’s Blu Moon, 2011 Nationals Runner-Up Nathan Wilmot at the helm of Conor Clarke’s Embarr, 2009 Corinthian World Champion Bruce Ayres on Monsoon and 2010 U.S. National Champion/2009 North American Champion Alan Field on WTF are all in contention to win.

Other great teams on point to that expect a phenomenal event are Guy Mossman on Battle Rhythm, Richard Thompson’s Black Seal, Argyle Campbell’s Rock n’ Roll and USMCA Vice President Cary Seigler’s Rock Steady.
The U.S. Melges 24 Class will be recognizing a Corinthian Division at Bacardi that includes current Midwest District Governor Augie Hernandez on High Voltage, former U.S. Class President Scott Gregory on Betty and Scott Foxman on Relentless.

2012 will mark the third year that the Melges 24s have competed in Miami, and yet again, it is designated as an official North American Ranking event on the international calendar. It also is event number four of five in the newly established Florida Cup Series (FCS).

Beyond BMSW is the final FCS event, the 2012 Atlantic Coast Championship takes place on March 25-27 in Naples, Fla., held in conjunction with the Porsche Cup of Naples.
