Etchells World Championship - Nautica new time sponsor for 2012 Worlds

'NSR 05 Date by Nautica Watches, distributed by Designa Accessories'

Nautica Watches is pleased to have signed on as the official time sponsor for the 2012 International Etchells World Championship that will be held in Sydney from February 20-25.

Hosted by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, the regatta is considered the ultimate contest for the Etchells Class with races taking place on the waters off Sydney’s famous Manly beach.

Etchells class sailing is the most competitive one-design sail boat racing in the world. It attracts the best-of-the-best sailors at both a professional and amateur level including America’s Cup, maxi boat and Olympic sailors.

International guidelines govern the design of the yacht so each crew of three or four sailors race on boats that are virtually identical. The racing is fast, technical and highly competitive with boats sensitive to offshore conditions and the slightest rig and sail adjustments; sailing in the Etchells class is an art-form making the racing a true test of sailing ability.

The World Championship is an annual event that travels across the globe. Last year it was held in America and next year it will be in Italy. For 2012, Sydney has attracted 73 entries with elite crew including Mark Richards (Wild Oats XI), John Bertrand (Olympian &skipper of America’s Cup winner Australia II), Tom King (2000 Olympic Games gold medallist) and Tom Slingsby (2008 and 2012 Olympian). The competition includes a total of nine races with the final race day being on the 25th February followed by a prize ceremony and regatta dinner at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, Kirribilli.

'Nautica is proud to align with and support such a prestigious and respected competition. The Etchells World Championship has such great history around the world and will attract about 290 elite Australian and international sailors. Nauticaproducts represent timeless design that is inspired by an energetic and active lifestyle. We support the values of an Etchells class race which include leadership, technical skill and sportsmanship and we look forward to a fast-paced and exciting regatta' Kate Wood Brand Manager Nautica Watches.

As an added incentive, the winning crew from each of the nine races will receive a Nautica Watch as a prize (BFD 101 Chrono, BFD 100 or NSR-05 Date).
