2011/12 NSW O'pen BIC Cup at Port Stephens (PSSAC)

SW O’pen Cup.

Round 2 of the 2011/12 NSW O’pen Cup took place this past weekend with a solid turn out of 41 sailors taking part.

Taking place at Port Stephens Sailing & Aquatic Club round two was a two day regatta following on from the one day round one that took place at Kurnell Cat Club back in November of last year. Due to strong breeze, only two races were sailed at Kurnell with another five races sailed over the two days at PSSAC, meaning the sailors had one drop for the seven races sailed in total. This assisted the sailors that made the entire series and this showed in the results.

Conditions were close to perfect for the two days, good 10-15 knot breezes for the two days without any of the rain forecasted ever failing during the regatta.

Following the unique format of O’pen Cup regattas the two days were jam packed with five races, three heats of freestyle and a 2-up adventure race that included a running start and finish.

Thanks for all the sailors that took part in the very first NSW O’pen Cup series. A very special mention needs to go to Kurnell Cat Club and Port Stephens Sailing & Aquatic Club for hosting the series this year.

The next O’pen Cup regatta on the calendar is the WA O’pen Cup taking part at Koombana Bay Sailing Club (March 3-5) followed by our Australian O’pen Cup at Noosa at Easter.
