NSW Maritime - Areas granted Exclusive Use for Australia Day

Lake Talbot and Lake Mulwala: Exclusive Use Australia Day

NSW Maritime will have two exclusive use aquatic licences active for Murray/ Inland waterways active on Australia Day. NSW Maritime Regional Manager Murray/ Inland Scott Kidd said boaters should avoid the whole of the navigable waters of Lake Talbot between 12pm and 5pm where Australia Day raft races are scheduled to take place.

'This area will be used exclusively for the safe staging of raft races as part of Australia Day celebrations,' Mr Kidd said. Also on Australia Day, as well as Friday and Saturday, (27 and 28 January) an aquatic licence will be in place for the safe staging of water-ski display and demonstrations on Lake Mulwala, Mr Kidd said.

'Boaters should avoid the area established on Ski Club Lagoon on Lake Mulwala on each day between 5pm and 9pm as the area will be used exclusively for the safe staging of ski club display and demonstrations,' Mr Kidd said. 'For safety reasons, skippers should avoid both exclusive use aquatic licence areas as they will be restricted for the events and patrolled by control vessels.'

Mr Kidd said unauthorised vessels would not be permitted to enter the exclusive use areas unless authorised by event organisers, a NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officer or a Police Officer. NSW Maritime is part of Roads and Maritime Services.

Hunter: Exclusive Use areas for Australia Day

NSW Maritime has granted four exclusive use aquatic licences for the safe staging of Australia Day events in the Hunter/ Inland region.

NSW Maritime Regional Manager Hunter/ Inland Sonia McKay said this would include:·
a swim event on Newcastle Harbour;
a Maritime Festival, which begins tomorrow, also on Newcastle Harbour;
a fireworks display at Lake Macquarie; and
a swim event at Lake Glenbawn.

Ms McKay said boaters on Newcastle Harbour should keep clear of competing swimmers in an area about 200 metres wide, between Queens Wharf and Stockton Ferry Wharf from 8am to 9.30am. This area will be used exclusively for the safe staging of the Stockton Surf Life Saving Club’s Across the Harbour Swim.

'For the Maritime Festival, put on by the Newcastle Maritime Museum Society, boaters should keep clear of the harbour between 12 noon and 10pm on Wednesday, and between 8am and 6pm on Thursday,' Ms McKay said.

This area is downstream of the following landmarks:·
Stockton Bridge (Stockton Channel);
Dyke Berth 1 (South Channel);
and Cowper Road Bridge (Throsby Creek).

Ms McKay said boaters should also keep clear in a radius of 150m around a fireworks barge on Lake Macquarie between 6pm and 9pm, for a fireworks display at Speers Point, Lake Macquarie, that requires exclusive use for safety reasons.

'This area will be marked by buoys and be used exclusively for the safe staging of a fireworks display hosted by Lake Macquarie City Council,' Ms McKay said.

Meanwhile, NSW Maritime has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence for the safe staging of a swim event by Scone Swimming Club to be held in Spillway Bay, Lake Glenbawn from 6am until 1pm in an area formed by a perimeter about 100m around the swim course, which will be marked by buoys.

'For safety reasons, skippers should avoid these areas as they will be restricted for the events and patrolled by control vessels.'

Ms McKay said unauthorised vessels would not be permitted to enter the exclusive use area unless authorised by event organisers, a NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officer or a Police Officer. NSW Maritime is part of Roads and Maritime Services.

Wollongong Harbour: Exclusive Use Australia Day

NSW Maritime has granted an exclusive use aquatic licence for the safe staging of an aquathon on Wollongong Harbour this Thursday (26 Jan).

NSW Maritime Acting Regional Manager South Coast Wayne Langshaw said boaters should avoid the harbour in an area roughly triangular in shape defined by:
1. the shoreline adjacent to the intersection of Harbour Street and Cliff Road to
2. the centre of the entrance into Wollongong Harbour to
3. the eastern side of the remnants of the stone structure adjacent to the Wollongong Slipway to
4. the shoreline adjacent to the intersection of Harbour Street and Cliff Road.

'This area will be used exclusively for the safe staging of the Australia Day 2012 Illawarra Aquathon, from 7am to 11am,' Mr Langshaw said. 'Buoys will be located about 20 metres inside each point of the triangle. Competitors will be racing on a course outside these marks, so spectator vessel operators should be aware the exclusive use area extends outside the rounding marks in a 20 metre perimeter.

'For safety reasons, skippers should avoid this area as it will be restricted for the event and patrolled by control vessels.' Mr Langshaw said unauthorised vessels would not be permitted to enter the exclusive use area unless authorised by event organisers, a NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officer or a Police Officer.
