Push the Boat Out Day takes place on the 21 July 2012, one week before the start of the London 2012 Games. With flags waving and the sound of confetti cannons firing the RYA officially launched the event at the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show on Saturday 14 January.

The event is aimed at encouraging everyone across the country to get out on the water and show their support for the British Sailing Team, as well as showcase what a great sport sailing is.

Sailing clubs and centres, training schools, marinas and all boaters, whether sail, motor or windsurfing, are being asked to get involved and host an event or just get on the water for the day.

'We are hoping to get as many people out on the water as possible on Push the Boat Out day', explained Sail for Gold event coordinator Celia Edgington.

'We would love people to choose a time in the day to wave flags and show their support for the team. We’re asking people to take photos of their day, showing us what they got up to and to share them with us on the Sail for Gold Facebook page, along with any good luck messages, and we’ll share them with the British Sailing Team before they do battle at the Games. But most of all we just want everyone to have great fun.'

Some clubs have already starting planning their events with ideas ranging from a mini Sail for Gold regattas and mini Olympics, to treasure hunts and have-a-go days. Anyone interested in taking part in the day can find out lots more information on the Sail for Gold website.

Push the Boat Out is just one of the many great Sail for Gold events taking place in 2012.
