The Phuket King's Cup Regatta celebrated a successful 25th anniversary in partnership with four new sponsors; PTT Group, Singha Corporation, AIA Thailand and Thaioil. In addition to the valuable support the Regatta receives annually from cornerstone sponsors, these new partnerships helped to grow the reputation of this classic race for 2011 and beyond.
Famed for being Asia's largest 'big boat' regatta, the Phuket King's Cup was founded in 1987 with a mixed fleet of dinghies, boards and keelboats. Over the years, the Regatta has grown in size and stature to become the jewel in the crown of the Asian yachting circuit, welcoming the best-of-the-best from across Asia and the world to compete annually in Phuket.
Dr. Pailin Chuchottaworn, Chief Executive Officer & President, PTT, said, “Other than ensuring Thailand’s future energy security, PTT has also engaged in making policies toward sustainable development for Thai society, community and the environment. Sport sponsorship is one of many CSR activities that PTT continually gives priority to. As well as improving physical and athletic competitiveness and developing sports, it can also be a boon to Thai tourism as well. We are very pleased to sponsor the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta in its silver jubilee year. The Regatta is known throughout Asia for being one of the region’s premier competitive sailing events, and PTT is proud to be a part for several reasons; it sees the introduction of a Kiteboard Class to the programme, a large fleet of keelboats and multi-hulls, and growing competitiveness in the International Dinghy Class. PTT is delighted to support the development of sport sailing in Thailand in partnership with the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta.”
