On day 3 of the 52nd Interdominions in Auckland, New Zealand most of the 12 foot skiff competitors made their arrival at the ramp by 10:00am with the start set for 1:00pm. It was pretty drifty looking out on the water, but within the space of about 15 minutes the wind built to a solid 15-17 knots 20 degrees off the north.
Everyone opted for their second rigs and headed for the start. The 18 footers were off first with a clear start and the sequence rolled straight into the 12’s. The course was the northerly course, starting near the Wharf mark heading to Rough Rock buoy with a tight kite ride to Bean Rock, then a hang it hard kite and two sail to Wharf buoy. It was then back to Rough Rock and a downwind sleigh ride to the finish making a triangle and windward leeward.
Race 5 was taken out by Gemmell Sails followed by Frankie and Garde.
Race 6 was won by Garde after the lead boat absolute CNCc had disaster strike on the last downwind leg, having to finish without a kite. Second was Gemmell Sails followed by C-Tech.
Tomorrow is forecast for 15 knots again from the same direction and should provide more great sailing.
The following day is a reserve day and surely there will be some battered and bruised sailors looking for a rest.
