18ft Skiff Mark Foy Championships Day 2 + Video

There was no racing on day 1 for the 18 foot Skiff Mark Foy Championships due to weather conditions, but on day 2 the schedule was set for three races back to back. Breezes were forecast for N/E at 15-20 knots, which was indeed delivered, with all skiffs choosing to go with their no.2 rigs.

The racing commenced on a turning tide which whipped up a confused sea state that made the conditions challenging. There was plenty of carnage on the first downwind two sail reaching in lumpy seas and tested all the crews abilities as the wind speed increased.

C-Tech, Alex Vallings, showed good speed to lead but closely followed be CST and DeLongi. C-Tech increased their lead with CST stretching out on DeLongi and then Maersk Line. On the last windward leg C-Tech and CST failed to cover DeLongi which picked up a right hand shift and lead at the last mark from C-Tech and CST. On the downwind to the finish Maersk come through to finish third behind DeLongi and CT.

The next two races became a three boat competition with C-Tech getting through the win race 2 and CST pipping DeLonghi for second. CST and C-Tech had a close tussle in race 3 with CST getting home first and DeLongi third.

Three races are scheduled for tomorrow with a forecast for lighter breeze.
