The 2012 Mitre 10 MEGA NZ Paper Tiger National Championships began competitive racing today with one race completed in conditions that New Plymouth are renowned for around the world, 20+ knots of wind and big waves.

Jacksons Flooring Race One saw Dave Shaw of Nelson take the first race of the event with a hard-fought come from behind win ahead of Peter Robins and Scott Barker, both of Wellington.
After the completion of today's racing Dave Shaw (Nelson) has the lead from Peter Robins (Muritai) and Scott Barker (Muritai). Scott Pedersen (Napier) and Carl Syman (Evans Bay) round out the top five. Competition in the B Grade is tight with Carl Syman coming out on top following today's racing. Dylan Taylor (New Plymouth) is currently leading the C Grade, while Jane Thomassen (Evans Bay) is currently the first Female.
