On the weekend of the 18-19 February 2012, a mixed fleet of classes ranging from Optimists, Lasers, Skiffs and Platu keelboats will descend on Royal Akarana Yacht Club (RAYC) for the second installment of the Sail Akarana regattas. The concept was launched in late October and saw 50 boats racing in the area north of the Orakei wave screen over two days. The sprint race series has 12 races scheduled over two days with up to six races planned for each day. Other Sail Akarana regattas will also be held over the year giving sailors a chance to train for major events.
RAYC Vice Commodore and Sailing Committee Chairman Mike Wilson said that the club was looking for another way to promote the facilities on The Landing at Okahu Bay.
'RAYC is situated on the largest launching ramp in New Zealand therefore making our location ideal for offthe- beach classes,' said Wilson. 'I plan on racing myself in one of the RAYC Platus which will also be available for charter for this regatta,'
The Notice of Race and Online Entry are now available for Sail Akarana. A free BBQ will be available to all competitors along with daily presentations.
