Day three of the Musto International Youth Match Racing Championship saw the completion of the double round robin. Six flights remained to be sailed today.
It was another good performance from True Blue Racing as they won five of their six matches to move up and finish second after the double round robin stage, behind defending champion Jay Griffin.
After the new World Match Racing rankings were released this morning, which saw True Blue Racing move up to 27th in the World, the team took out its first five races of the day, before being defeated by Jay Griffin to finish off the round robin stage.
True Blue Racing finished in second sfter the round robins with a scorecard of 14-4.
Jay Griffin who is the defending champion finished on top of the round robin stage with one more win over True Blue Racing. Yesterday’s leader Tim Coltman moved to third overall with a 13-5 scorecard with Chris Steele from RNZYS only qualifying for the final semi final spot when he defeated fellow team mates Jamie Dawson in the final flight of the round robin. Dawson was at that point in fourth place.
Finishing on top of the round robin stage allowed Jay Griffin to choose his semi final opponent. Jay chose to race Chris Steele (NZL) leaving True Blue Racing to do battle against runners up from last year's event, Tim Coltman (NZL).
The race committee chose to start the semi-finals with only the first matches being sailed today.

With True Blue Racing and Tim Coltman both having beaten each other in the round robin stage, there was no clear favourite going into the semi-finals. After an even start in which True Blue Racing defended the left hand side, the team took the lead half way up the first windward leg. A close first run saw a luffing duel as Tim Coltman tried to roll over TBR. Good defence and positioning by the team saw Coltman receive a penalty for not keeping clear. From there True Blue Racing sailed a very strong tactical race to come away with the win and the early lead in the semi-finals.
Chris Steele scored a huge upset with a massive victory over Jay Griffin in their first match.
Tomorrow is the final day of racing and will see the best of three semi-final and the best of five final being completed. Racing will commence at 10:45am.
