The Musto International Youth Match Racing Championship is being conducted on Sydney Harbour and after day 2 Jay Griffin and his crew of Joel Turner, Kurt Hansen and Jack Breislin are still tied with Tim Coltman and his crew of Emma Berry and Matthew Clough. Both have ten wins and two losses on their scorecard.
Griffin, representing the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA), hosts of the Championship this week, was on top at the completion of Round Robin One on countback from Tim Coltman, representing the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, New Zealand.
Jordan Reece from the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron currently holds onto third place with nine wins and three losses.
'It was a pretty tough and shifty day. I’m gutted that Sydney has caught Wellington-itis this week – I was hoping for much better conditions,' joked Coltman this afternoon.
'We’ve had some close races – our match with fellow New Zealander Chris Steele was tight. He stole the lead from us on the last leg and we really had to defend our position to grab the win, edging him out right on the finish line.'
In another of Coltman’s matches his opponent Ashlen Rooklyn (CYCA) received a black flag after some aggressive racing manoeuvres saw Rooklyn came into contact with Coltman twice.
Jordan Reece and his crew of Henry Kernot and Arnau Farras-Knowles are happy with their third place and their performance thus far in the regatta but Reece knows there is still a long way to go.
'It was another tricky day on water today. In our match with Jamie Dawson (RNZYS), we had the lead and Dawson was carrying a penalty. He managed to stay on the left hand side of the course and take a big enough lead to allow him to undertake his penalty turn right on the finish line and take the match,' Reece said.

Sydney has not turned on its finest weather for the ten crews competing this week. After two days of rain and fickle conditions, the dedicated Race Committee led by Race Officer Denis Thompson managed to finish Round Robin one and complete three flights of Round Robin two.
Racing was conducted in the vicinity of Rushcutters Bay with mostly south easterly winds that swung to south south east at times and changed in strength from 5-17 knots.
'When the bands of rain came through it killed the breeze for us. The mark layers were very busy today as we had to change courses numerous times with the shifts in the breeze,' Thompson said.
'In the middle of the day the course got bucketed with rain but it cleared later in the afternoon. All competitors now have wins on their score cards and are displaying great match racing prowess,' he added.

Hosted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, racing is being conducted on the Youth Sailing Academy Elliott 6s and continues through until Friday 25 November.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting south easterly winds of 15-20 knots tending east to south easterly 10-15 knots later in the afternoon, with isolated showers.
