True Blue Racing on Day 1 of Musto Int'l Youth Match Racing Champs

Today, 22nd November, racing got underway in the 2011 Musto International Youth Match Racing Championships hosted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia.
Tricky conditions greeted the ten teams competing from Australia, New Zealand and USA. The breeze started out of the west as racing got underway at 10am.
True Blue Racing didn't get off to the best start facing runners up from last year's event, Tim Coltman from New Zealand. Coltman won the match.
After the early shock for True Blue Racing, who had come into the regatta as the highest ranked team ever to compete at the event, with a World ranking of 32, the team bounced back to take the remaining three matches sailed during the day. The breeze dropped and switched round to the north east before switching back to a southerly in the afternoon.
Race wins against Carla Sexton (AUS), Jamie Dawson (NZL) and Ryan Davison (USA) sees True Blue Racing finish day 1 in third place behind Tim Coltman and last year's winner Jay Griffin (AUS).
'We didn’t get the best start to the competition this morning, but after the race we had a good chat and worked out what we did wrong and could fix and we sailed better in the afternoon. It was really tricky out there today and the race committee had a bit of trouble setting a good course, so it was very tough to get back into races if you were behind.
'In our first race against Tim Coltman we got to the starboard lay very quickly and Tim was able to lee-bow us and force us back out to over lay and from there it was a bit of a follow the leader course' commented mainsail trimmer Henry Kernot.
Tomorrow racing will continue in what, hopefully, will be a southerly breeze that will allow racing to get back on track.
True Blue Racing sits in third place, only one point behind overall leaders Tim Coltman and Jay Griffin.
