Melges 32 NSW State Title win for Beashel and Breeze team

On day two of the Melges 32 NSW State Titles, the local boat Sewell Breezin made a tactical decision to sail to the Western Shore which was the opposite choice of the rest of the fleet which were on the first beat in a light shifting five knot breeze.

The Breezin team had Americas Cup, Team New Zealand local sailor Adam Beashel calling the shots. The move paid off as they lead the fleet ahead of Steve Girdis Funnel Web until a sea breeze kicked in and reshuffled the fleet giving Funnel Web the win and Mike Turner Sticks a deserved second after picking the seabreeze.

After the course had been relayed race two started quickly with Breezin sailing downwind with their kite up towards the start line. Beashel had been aloft for some quick halyard repairs making them a little late for the start. Angus Reid Maxstar fought it out for a good lead on the last lap Maxstar risked it all jibe setting at the top mark to chase the breeze down the south side of the course, while the fleet chose North side. Maxstar averaged fourteen knots of boat speed to comfortable win the race, ahead of Funnel Web and Sticks.

Race three and the wind had picked up to a consistent 15 knot seabreeze. Melges 32’s lapped it up and Breezin dominated the race leading from start to finish, grins all round. Local Lake Macquarie North Sails sailmaker Scott Beeby helped Breezin get the most out of their new slick 3Di sails.
