Melges 24 NSW State Titles - New Bandits onboard

'Bandit AUS 814 Melges Asia Pacific'    Tracey Walters
Melges 24 NSW State Titles - The champion crew that has seen CYC Melges 24 Bandit blitz the Melges 24 fleet lately will see two very important changes this weekend at Lake Macquarie Yacht Club.

Multiple Australian Champion and owner Warwick Rooklyn's key tactical playmaker, Julian Plant, has other commitments.

Team strong man and former Olympic Finn Coach Doug McGain is also out for this weekend.

Teams in the strong Melges 24 fleet looking to take advantage of the changes, might want to think again.

Twenty three year old Queenslander Sean O’Rourke will step into Julian’s shoes. He maybe young but has already won four Australian titles. The first was the Sabot Australian Championships in 2004 and the last the Open Match Racing Championships. Sean is finishing his Structural Engineering degree at the moment and then plans to Campaign a 49er with the goal of Brazil Olympics in 2016.

Tim Austin will replace Dougie as the muscle. Tim is a talented crew and former 18 foot skiff world champion and last month was part of the team that won the Australian Match racing championships. He is also Wazza’s regular crew when they sail the 49er, so knows Warwick well.

The regular Bandit crew won the Nationals in March on count back to Cameron Miles, Roger That and more recently the East Coast Championship by a point which has inspired the rest of the teams to challenge for the podium... perhaps this weekend.
