John Burgess, Lipton Cup Regatta Chairman, stated entries for the Lipton Cup Regatta continue to flow in. At midday Tuesday the official entry comprised of 93 yachts, listed in seven divisions with another 40 boats expected to compete in the OTB Division. Entry is open for two more days.
All up, the rapidly expanding fleet may total in excess of 150 boats sailing in eight divisions this weekend 19th/20th November 2011.
This year the Lipton Cup Regatta will include an OTB Division to cater for the local dinghy clubs OTB fleets.
Williamstown Sailing Club will conduct the dinghy racing on the protected waters of Hobsons Bay. It is anticipated that up to 40 boats will make up the OTB fleet.
The Sports Boat Division including seven SB3’s, has 16 entries and is set for a bumper curtain raiser regatta. The Sportsboats will be sailing using SMS ratings and the Lipton Cup Regatta will be the second leg of the Victorian ASBA Championships. This Division has attracted a very talented fleet of top sportsboat skippers and crew.
As usual, this regatta will give the top Keelboat sailors a chance to shake out the winter cobwebs by providing around the buoys racing as well as longer distance race on Sunday. The Victorian Keelboat AMS/IRC Championship 2011 will also be run in conjunction with the Lipton and the top skippers and crews are anxiously awaiting the weekends racing.
The weather for the event to be held on 19th/20th November 2011 is forecast, at this time, to provide good, testing sailing conditions and the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria is set up to provide excellent courses and après race entertainment for the competitors.
