It has been announced that Audi Australia will continue to support the Australian Sailing Team through the end of 2012. Audi’s support of the Australian Sailing Team stretches back to 2006 when the team was created, with the past five years being incredibly successful for both parties. Since the relationship between the Australian Sailing Team and the brand with the four rings began the team has continued to perform at the highest level, winning ten World Championships across a range of classes, two Olympic Gold medals and a Silver medal. The new agreement will see Audi continue as a major co-sponsor of the Australian Sailing Team, providing support for the sailors across the country, including providing a number of A6s, Q7s and A4 Avants, with Audi also assisting with vehicles for use in Europe. Audi’s Managing Director, Uwe Hagen, says the premium brand welcomes the chance to work with Australia’s high performance sailors to support their path to success. 'The Australian Sailing Team has proven that they have the ability and the desire to win at any level, with several Olympic medals and World Championships under the team’s collective belt. With such a strong focus on sailing in Australia, it was an easy decision for Audi to continue this support of high level competitive sailing. We’re looking forward to following the team’s success,' Mr Hagen said.

In December the eyes of the sailing world will turn to Western Australia for the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championship, with the Australian Sailing Team keen to put in a good performance on home waters. The team will then head overseas with a number of ISAF Sailing World Cup and World Championship regattas taking place in early 2012, before heading to Weymouth in England for a shot at Gold in August 2012. Australian Sailing Team High Performance Director Peter Conde said that Audi’s continual support is a major benefit for the team. 'Audi’s continued support of the Australian Sailing Team through the supply of vehicles is important for our sailors who transport their boats for racing and training both in Australia and overseas,' said Conde. 'The sailors continually travel long distances whether at home or when in Europe and the use of Audi vehicles helps the team to easily move between events.' 'Audi as a premium brand is driven by performance. The relationship with this group of top-performing athletes is important to us as we have been a long-time sponsor of competitive sailing in Australia, and this team is really the best of the best,' Audi’s Managing Director, Uwe Hagen added.
