Sail Sydney 2011 - On the third day of the first round of Sail Sydney the rain came down. Not long enough to overly disturb the competitors, but an array of offshore style clothing was very obvious on the official boats as they set the course for the days racing.
In the final day of sailing for the RS:X sail boards, Norwegian sailor Sebastian Wang-Hansen continued to show his style with three bullets in the three races that were held.
In conditions that were rarely above 11 knots, the boards still put on a spectacular display as they beat towards the mark.
Winning the series on ten points, Wang-Hansen had a dominating position a clear 24 points from local sailor James Levy in second place. Queenslander Luke Baillie placed third in the series on 35 points, with Marco Baglione from Italy fourth after only completing one race today.
The Laser Radial fleet was also sent around the course three times today. Alex South won two out of three giving her six firsts out of eight races in the series so far.
Leading by eight points, South is sharing the score board with Team Malaysia’s Nur Amirah Hamid on sixteen points, and St Lucia’s Beth Lygoe on seventeen. With only one day to go it seems that South will be hard to beat.

Don’t mention the rugby either as Kiwi Josh Junior won all three races in the Laser class. Challenged today by Jonasz Stelmaszyk from Poland and Charlie Buckingham from the US, Junior leads the series by ten points from local James Burman. Charlie Buckingham is third in the series on 30 points.
In the Finns Rob McMillan and Joseph McMillan took a first and a second each in the two races completed on this third day of Sail Sydney. The older McMillan, Rob, leads the series on 17 points which gives him a clear buffer over the younger McMillan, Joseph, on 32 points.
Only one day remains in the first round of Sail Sydney. The second round of Sail Sydney will be on 16th to 18th December. Open to all classes. Get your entries in now.
