Sail-World.com : Seawind Pittwater Regatta a huge success
Seawind Pittwater Regatta a huge success
|
Seawind Pittwater Regatta was held from 28th to 30th October 2011. Seawind celebrated this year’s event with the biggest turnout in its 13 year history. With a total of 40 multihulls entered including 32 x Seawinds and eight x Corsair Trimarans, who were invited for the first time following Seawind’s acquisition of the company last year, the regatta was a huge success and is the largest regatta of Multihulls above 20ft in the country and the largest regatta of its kind in the world. Following a brilliant invitation race in an 18 knot North Easterly on Friday evening, the 100th Seawind 1160 'Centurion' was put on display after being launched just recently. A bottle of champagne and crew shirts were presented by Managing Director Richard Ward to all four new owners who are part of a newly formed Seawind Syndicate to be based on Sydney Harbour. The second Seawind 1000XL2 was also on display with the new owner taking the helm for the first time over the weekend and Seawind staff training him onboard during the regatta. The big news of the regatta was the launch of a new sales, brokerage and service business – Multihull Central. With head quarters soon to be based at the newly built Multihull marina at Rozelle Bay, Multihull Central also has an expert team of sales representatives around Australia in locations including Sydney, Pittwater, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Airlie Beach, Melbourne and Perth. This didn’t hold back a very enthusiastic group of boat owners and crew however enjoying a raft up at lunch time and then the grand finale Pirate Party at the Basin that evening. With a couple of hundred guests dressed in their best pirate outfits and the atmosphere provided by some live entertainment who kept the Jimmy Buffet and sailing tunes rolling, this swashbuckling affair had the crowd dancing the night away and celebrating the prizes that were provided by the many generous sponsors. Alan Leach of Seawind 1000 'Tranquility' was the overall winner of the Seawind fleet for the regatta, and Jim Rannard of C24 Mk11 was the overall winner of the Corsair Fleet. Seawind would like to thank their generous sponsors: FGI, Ronstan, Muir, RW Basham, Tunbridge DeSigns, Harken, Oatley Wines, Finlease, Nautilus Marine, Multihull World Magazine, Fusion Electronics, Extreme Mobile Marine, Ruel Rigging, Bayview Slipways. Style4Sail, Xtreme Mobile Marine, Cruz Vessel Management, Yanmar, Marine Tune and Parker LED. Event website
