Heavy rain and flooding in some parts of Florida didn't deter the buyers at this year's Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, according to exhibitors and Show Management, who reported sales about the same as last year.
Event organisers had to man the pumps and vacuum vehicles to clean up the puddles that gathered on the docks, said Dane Graziano, senior vice president with Show Management.
'The rain did affect our turnout, but it was the public with the baby strollers that stayed home, not the quality boaters looking to buy,' Graziano said.
Vendors indoors at the Broward County Convention Center saw more traffic through the weekend because of the weather, and sales were good.
The Ferretti Group, which had 15 boats on display along the face dock at the Bahia Mar Yachting Center, reported that sales were as good at the boat show this year as last year. The company finalized seven boat sales, including the classic Riva Aquariva Super 27-foot runabout, three Ferrettis, two Bertrams and a Ferretti custom line 100, according to Bryan Bogue, Ferretti Group's manager of market intelligence, North America.
'Traffic was down because of the weather, but the serious buyers still came,' said James Henderson, Ferretti Group's chief marketing officer for North America.
