Ultimate Fishing Boating and Navigation iPhone app launched

'Fish Boat Nav app'
Fish Boat Nav is an iPhone application that can be used for fishing, boating and navigation; created by anglers for anglers.

The temperature is a balmy 30 degrees and in the distance, Whitsunday Island rises out of the Coral Sea waters like a sleeping giant. At this point, I’m almost certain that we’re in paradise, and as I glance down at my iPhone, the GPS informs me that we’re now almost 30 nautical miles East of Hamilton Island, Australia. Robbie Wells, an Australian fishing personality who is also my guide for our trip, happily taps on his smart-phone, loading the Fish Boat Nav application and selecting the fish species almanac. 'This is a Giant Trevally, and today we’re going to my favourite hotspot for a round of surface fishing using stick bait and poppers, he said. Robbie then taps another time on my iPhone, and all of a sudden its telling us how we’re going to get there.

The Fish Boat Nav story began in 2010 when keen angler Robbie Wells was headed to North America for a bass fishing competition. 'I had never been to The United States or Canada before, so finding out what I could or couldn’t bag, including whether or not I was allowed to be in that area really got me thinking'.

'I basically had an epiphany, why is there no application out there that provides anglers with the resources and information you need to get the most out of your trip? Yeah you can download all the other half-mast ones, but finding all that info in one place is something that is near impossible, so organising this into a comprehensive iPhone app was a natural given'.

'My good mate Graeme Foley and I looked around for an app developer who could rise to the challenge of building this app, so when we found out that there was one right here in Australia, we were wrapped'.

Chief Technical Officer of iApps Pty Ltd, Andrew Longhorn, said, 'Fish Boat Nav eliminates the need to shell out thousands of dollars for obsolete satellite navigation equipment, with its ability to harness the powers of GPS to the benefit of anglers the world over.

'When we took on the project, we really had to understand what their needs were, so working with Robbie was fantastic as he has been fishing for 45 years and truly understands the ins and outs of the recreational fishing industry.'

Both Robbie and the iApps team have designed this application to deliver a range of information to fishermen, including the ability to record details relating to a catch such as time, location, conditions, structure and a photograph of the fish caught.

Fish Boat Nav features a fish almanac that can be accessed from multiple areas within the app, including species, types of bait, bag limits, size requirements and other regulations specific to the area you are fishing in.

'By incorporating this type of data into the app, anglers will be able to get more out of their trip, as you are able to access an entire data-base over a variety of categories.'

The navigation function of the app can be used independently or cross-referenced with fishing and boating sections to enable the user to navigate an area by GPS. All your favourite hotspots, moorings, location can all be recorded, including an alarm clock function that wakes you up when it’s time to fish.

If you thought that wasn’t enough, Fish Boat Nav provides information on Australian and U.S Green Zones, marine weather and tides.

For the cautious angler, this complete fishing app provides one touch access to emergency numbers for the Australian coastguard, weather department, fisheries, environmental protection agencies and river watch to name a few.

Available exclusively for the iPhone, Fish Boat Nav is the ultimate Fishing, Boating and Navigation app that is ready for download on the iTunes app store now.
